Let’s Re-CAP, Vol.1

Child Abuse Prevention Month is here. As part of our efforts to raise awareness and prevent child abuse, we're sharing resources, information, and upcoming CARE House events.

Prevention starts with each of us.

It starts with having difficult conversations.

At CARE House of Oakland County, we know that knowledge is power. When we have conversations about child abuse and abuse prevention with our kids, friends, colleagues, and family, we create communities in which everyone can help prevent abuse. When we talk about it, we help strengthen protective factors in our families and communities, which are vital to keeping kids safe. When we are open and honest about child abuse, we put shame to rest and bring truth to light.

Join us as we celebrate Child Abuse Prevention Month. Help share resources, information, and tips on how to make our community a safe place for children.

The 5 Safety Rules are designed to help children and teens recognize and respond to unsafe situations, including abuse.

Rule #1 is Know What’s Up:

Stay aware of your surroundings and the people around you. This includes knowing your full name, address, and how to contact a Safe Adult in case of emergencies.

Wear Blue on April 10!

Wear Blue Day for Child Abuse Prevention Month is Friday, April 10. Post a picture or video to your socials and tag CARE House.

Tell us why you support Child Abuse Prevention Month and we'll reshare to help raise awareness!

Since 1981, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) has challenged the Nation to confront and remove barriers to achieve justice for all victims of crime. During NCVRW, we recognize the accomplishments of the victims’ rights movement and reflect on how far we have come.

This year, we invite you to join us for a community event at the Oakland County Executive Office Building Conference Center on Thursday, April 23, from 8:30 - 9:30 am. Hear from Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald, CARE House President & CEO, Blythe Tyler, and those who have been affected by crime.
