The CARE House Helping Hands / Shaping Futures
Volunteers lend their hearts and hands every day in helping to shape better futures for abused children.
With the thousands of hours they contribute each year, the volunteers help CARE House build its capacity to serve more children and families.
Volunteers are needed to support many of the CARE House programs and services.
Among the volunteer opportunities at CARE House:
CASA [Janice Morganroth CASA Program]: We train this volunteer to serve as a special advocate for an abused or neglected child. After completing training, the 6th Judicial Circuit Family Division appoints them to children in foster care, where they serve as their consistent supportive adult figure. Child Assist: This volunteer provides comfort to children who come to CARE House for an interview concerning allegations of sexual or physical abuse.
Family Support Group: CARE House therapists offer a weekly [Tuesday evenings] support group to many of the children who have been interviewed and disclosed their abuse. Volunteers can participate in activities with children or help to facilitate the parent group.
Family Support Chefs: Your group or organization can volunteer to prepare a nutritious meal for the children and families of the Family Support Night [Tuesday evenings]. Scheduling frequency is flexible.
Front Desk Greeter: A volunteer that is the welcoming presence for children and families as they come to CARE House. They also assist with special projects at the front desk.
Medical Assistant: A health care trained volunteer who cares for the child and assists the physician during a medical evaluation when a child visits our medical clinic.
Nurturing Oakland Parents - This is a weekly Thursday evening program for parents/guardians and children ages 5-11.Volunteers assist the program's facilitator by supervising these children and completing planned activities with them.
