Meet the G. Family

From the outside, they looked like a typical family—a mother, a stepfather, and seven children.

Nothing about their appearance raised alarm. But behind that image was a far more troubling reality.

When a routine welfare check uncovered the conditions inside the home, it became clear the children were living in severe neglect. There was no proper staircase to enter the house—only makeshift wooden planks laid across dangerous gaps. Broken windows and a missing front door left the home exposed. Inside, there was no running water. Six of the children shared just three worn mattresses, and every room reflected instability and disregard for basic care.

These were children living without safety, privacy, or comfort—circumstances no child should ever endure. That is when CASA was assigned.

With seven children involved, each with unique needs, the case required consistent attention, accountability, and advocacy. A Court Appointed Special Advocate became a steady presence in their lives, ensuring the children’s voices were heard and their best interests remained the focus throughout the court process.

Through regular home visits and close coordination with service providers, CASA helped the family take meaningful steps forward. Progress didn’t happen overnight—but with support and guidance, it happened.

The family relocated to a clean, stable home. The children were enrolled in school and provided with essential supplies. Medical and mental health needs were addressed, and the home environment began to reflect structure, care, and connection.

During one CASA visit, the children eagerly showed off their new bedrooms—spaces that represented more than furniture. They reflected dignity, belonging, and pride. Their excitement about school and the holidays was a powerful reminder of what stability can restore: hope.

The parents, supported by services and held accountable through the process, completed parenting programs and demonstrated consistent growth. CASA observed stronger family bonds, improved parenting skills, and a home environment where the children could safely remain.

Ultimately, CASA was able to recommend that the children stay in their home and that court involvement be successfully terminated. This outcome was possible because someone showed up.

CASA ensures that children are not overlooked during the most critical moments of their lives—that they are seen, supported, and protected. When advocates step forward, families heal, and futures change.

You can be part of that impact. Support CASA. Volunteer. Advocate. For the children in our community.

Because when we stand up for children, lives are transformed.
