Do you want to make a difference in a child’s life? CARE House is where futures begin; offering many unique volunteer opportunities for people who want to help shape a better future for a child.
Child Assistant: This volunteer provides comfort to children who come to CARE House, the home of the Council, for an interview concerning allegations of sexual or physical abuse. The volunteer eases the fear of these children by reading, playing games, or taking part in other age-appropriate activities.
Family Support Group: The Council’s therapists offer a weekly support group to many of the children who have been interviewed and disclosed their abuse. The support group also includes the non-offending parents and siblings, and it focuses on positive issues and rebuilding self-esteem damaged by the abuse. Volunteers can participate in activities with children or help to facilitate the parent group.
Stewards of Children : This program is a primary prevention program to educate the community to recognize the symptoms of abuse and take on that responsibility. Volunteers are trained in Stewards of Children to present this three hour program to community groups.
Volunteer Advocates for Children (CASA) : This volunteer is trained by the Council and appointed by the 6th Judicial Circuit – Family Division, to serve as a special advocate for an abused/neglected child or children while under the Court’s jurisdiction. The Advocate provides a consistent voice for the child during the Court involvement.
Healthy Start/Healthy Families: This prevention program provides parents and their children with the opportunity to gain greater self-esteem, learn and experience respect of self and others. The volunteers assist with the children. Volunteers are also needed to facilitate a Baby Pantry.
Development/Special Events: Development is responsible for raising funds for the operations of the Council. At certain times, volunteers are needed to assist in preparing invitations, information packets and mailers. Volunteers also provide help with special events, such as helping with registration or setting up for the event.
