- It is your legal responsibility to report and there are many repercussions for not reporting.
- Should I investigate the case before I make the report?
- No. You need to report as soon as you suspect neglect or abuse.
- Can I be sued as a result of my report?
- Any report that is made in good faith is immune from civil lawsuits.
- Is spanking considered child abuse?
- The answer to this question is “yes” when it results in injury to the child. However, one should consider if spanking or other forms of corporal punishment are changing the negative behaviors: there are more effective methods of discipline that do not involve physical contact.
